Visa Credit Card Application
By: Anne Durrell
If you're thinking of submitting a visa credit card application then you should spend a few minutes considering your chances of being approved before you apply. There are several good reasons for checking your own eligibility before you submit your application, but the most important is that you could end up with another inquiry listed on your credit report if you're rejected.
Here are some things to think about:
Online Applications
Many people believe they might be able to fool the bank's assessors by filling incorrect information into the online application. Perhaps they are hoping the assessor won't notice the difference in income or that they won't check on any other unpaid accounts you have. This kind of thing will see your visa credit card application rejected immediately.
Another problem assessors see regularly is incomplete applications. Some customers leave sections blank or don't know how to fill them in properly. The assessor is then forced to ask extra questions, which could see your application rejected once again.
Special Offers and Low Interest Rates
When banks advertise those special offers on really low interest rates for visa credit card applications, they often have something written in the fine print about the client having a great credit score.
If your credit score isn't so great, then you might find that the lending institution may still approve your application, but you'll be charged a much higher interest rate than the one they advertised. This could be costing you money in the long run.
Income Verification
For anyone who still has great credit, but may have changed income details recently, always be sure you'll have sufficient income verification documents to show the lender you'll be able to afford repayments for the amount you want to set your credit limit.
This means that some lenders will approve lower credit limits on visa credit card applications from people on lower incomes and higher credit limits for those customers with higher incomes. This is their way of trying to make sure you'll be able to make your repayments okay.
Rewards Program
For some people, the added benefit of having a rewards program might suit your spending style. If you know you can comfortably pay down the balance on your credit card each month and continue spending regularly because of this, then a visa credit card application with a rewards program attached might be the right option for you.
Check Your Credit Score
Always know beforehand what your own credit score is. If you already know you have bad credit, then you should perhaps try to aim your application towards a lender than doesn't run a credit check. An easy option for anyone with bad credit is to submit a prepaid visa credit card application, as they won't bother with a credit check. They won't even run an income check!
