Credit Card Ratings
By: Anne Durrel
If you're trying to find the best card for you by searching through different credit card ratings, then you could be in for a bit of a surprise.Credit card ratings really don't give you any important information and you really shouldn't base your decision on them.
So why should you look deeper than just credit card ratings?
Credit card ratings are often very subjective. If a person has submitted a rating review saying that her MasterCard is the best in the world, then you need to remember that she might have excellent credit and never carry a balance. That could mean her credit card ratings are biased based on only her experience.
You could also find that other consumers will give a very good card a bad rating because they have missed a few payments and they could be paying penalty rates that are much higher than they should be paying.
What if you have bad credit or no credit and you know you're going to carry a balance for a little while? This would mean the credit card ratings you've seen ranking a particular card as being the best would be wrong.
When it comes to credit card ratings, it's always wise to remain objective and keep your own spending habits in mind. Just because one consumer prefers one particular card with a rewards program, you personally might do better with a completely different credit card.
This is because your own financial information is always going to be unique to you. Your spending habits are not going to be the same as the person who wrote the credit card rating. Even your credit score will be different. So why would you be persuaded by something that isn't even based on your own information?
There are plenty of credit card ratings available online, but these won't tell you the things you really need to know about the card you're considering. It's also never a good idea to choose a credit card based on another person's opinion.
After all, what if that person's opinion is based only on what he or she has read somewhere and doesn't have any bearing on the actual real cost or hidden fees behind the obvious ones you see?
Instead of trusting credit card ratings to make your decision, spend a little time researching the right card for you based on your financial position, your own credit rating and your individual spending habits. Read the fine print and ask questions of the lender to find out the things you need to know before you apply for anything.
This way you're more likely to find the right card for you instead of ending up with a card that might be perfect for someone else but an absolute disaster for you.
